About the Speaker

Justice M. N. Venkatachaliah

Former Chief Justice of India

Justice M. N. Venkatachaliah is one of India’s most distinguished jurists, having served as the Chief Justice of India from 1993 to 1994. During his tenure in the Supreme Court, he was part of several landmark judgments that shaped Indian constitutional law.


Post-retirement, he chaired the National Commission to Review the Working of the Constitution (2000–2002), which produced a comprehensive report with key recommendations on constitutional amendments, governance, judiciary, and electoral reforms.


He has also served as the Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission and was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian honour.
