B.A. (Hons.) in English Literature

The BA English Literature programme at Sai University is designed to teach students to grapple with the complexity of literary and cultural texts and to understand  the manner in which subjective experience is structured and constructed.

With its strong emphasis on reading as well as on critical and creative expression, the programme will help students decode what goes into the making of a text, to locate texts  historically, politically, socially, and culturally and to analyse them  via the lenses of gender, class, caste and race.  English Literature at Sai U will take into serious consideration the full range of literary traditions – canonical Western texts alongside those emerging from the postcolonial nations – helping students consider how ideas traverse and interact across borders and centuries.

Students will leave trained to raise critical questions about texts and the work they do in the world.

Representative core courses:

1. Introduction to Literature

2. Literary Forms (Poetry, Drama, The Novel etc)

3. Literary Periods and Survey Courses ( Elizabethan Age, American Literature, Postcolonial Studies etc)
