About Education Research Interests Major Works Dr. Jaisy George Senior Assistant Professor Dr. Jaisy George brings with her 11 years of experience spanning both academia and litigation. She holds a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice Administration from Symbiosis International (Deemed University), Pune, following her LL.M. with specialisations in Criminal Law and Human Rights. Dr. George has several publications to her credit, including work published in Scopus-indexed journals. Some of which are: Unravelling the Exclusionary Rule: A Criminological Analysis of India’s Judicial Discretion and Legislative Ambiguity; Impact of Technology in Investigations: The Judicial Response to Admissibility of Evidence Obtained Technologically; Women Trafficking in India: Unearthing the Key Vulnerability Factors Using Interpretative Structural Modelling; A Probe into the POCSO: A Legislative Comment on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012; Reconceptualising Corruption: On the Touchstone of Human Rights; and a Book Review on Dr. K. I. Vibhute, PSA Pillai’s Criminal Law, LexisNexis, 12th edition 2014, Reprint 2016. After qualifying the UGC-NET in 2014, Dr. Jaisy George began her teaching career as Assistant Professor at Al-Azhar Law College, Kerala. She later served as Assistant Professor at Symbiosis Law School, Pune—one of India’s premier institutions for legal education—where she was actively involved in teaching, research, and academic coordination. In addition to her academic experience, Dr. George has four years of professional experience in the legal industry, having practiced before the High Court of Kerala and various civil and criminal courts in Ernakulam. She was associated with reputed law firms such as M/s C. Varghese Kuriakose Advocates and M/s Intralegal Lawyers and Consultants, and also worked as a Transactional Lawyer with M/s Fabin Technologies, Kerala. The above reflects her professional and academic background prior to joining Sai University as Senior Assistant Professor. In her previous roles, Dr. Jaisy George has actively contributed to the academic and institutional development in capacities such as Member, Academic Council; NAAC Co-Ordinator; and Member, IQAC. She has also been engaged in student support initiatives as Chairperson, Students’ Grievance Cell; and as a member of the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) and Remedial Coaching Cell. Additionally, she has served as Programme Co-ordinator for the LL.M. programme and as Co-ordinator of key committees, including the Library Committee and the Human Rights Cell. These experiences have equipped her with well-rounded academic and administrative insights relevant to her role at Sai University.

Michael Gazzaniga widely regarded as having founded the interdisciplinary field of cognitive neuroscience. Early in his career he made a mark by being the first neuroscientist to comprehensively investigate differences between the left and right hemispheres of the human brain. Michael is the Director of the SAGE Center for the Study of Mind at the University of California, Santa Barbara. In 1964 he received a PhD from the California Institute of Technology, where he worked under the guidance of Roger Sperry, with primary responsibility for initiating human split-brain research. In his subsequent work he has made important advances in our understanding of functional lateralization in the brain and how the cerebral hemispheres communicate with one another. Michael’s teaching and mentoring career has included beginning and developing Centers for Cognitive Neuroscience at Cornell University Medical Center, University of California-Davis, and Dartmouth College. He founded the Cognitive Neuroscience Institute and the Journal of Cognitive Neuroscience, of which he is the Editor-in-Chief Emeritus. Michael is also prominent as an advisor to various institutes involved in brain research, and was a member of the President’s Council on Bioethics from 2001-2009. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Science, the Institute of Medicine and the National Academy of Sciences. STUDENTS BATTLE IT OUT AT ‘WAR OF WORDS’ FINALE ‘War of Words’, Sai University’s very first international interschool debate competition, was recently held online under the aegis of esteemed panels adjudging students from schools across India and the UAE. The theme of the debate competition was ‘Environment’. The event kicked off on April 5, 2021, with a preliminary round for students of classes 11 and 12 from schools across India and UAE. The preliminary round of the event saw robust participation of 38 students from 13 schools in India and 3 schools in UAE. Students debated it out on all aspects of the theme and covered a variety of topics like climate change, public water utilities, indiscriminate tourism among others. The judges of the preliminary round were eminent professors of SaiU from diverse backgrounds and interests – Abhishek Chakravarty, assistant professor of Law at SaiU and faculty at Daksha Fellowship; Chitra Narayan, professor of practice at SaiU and Daksha Fellowship; Mahesh Menon, assistant professor of Law at Daksha Fellowship and SaiU and Shiju M. V., professor of law at SaiU. Ten students chosen as finalists from the preliminary round went on to debate on interlinking of rivers in India, at the grand finale held on April 10, 2021. For the final round, the judges were Dr. Dawn Dekle, fourth president of the American University of Nigeria and a part of SaiU’s International Advisory Board; Dr. Shailender Swaminathan, Dean, Division of Social Sciences at SaiU; and Nalin Bakhle, Director, department of International Affairs, SaiU. Commenting on how debates are a great tool in an interdisciplinary model of education, Dr. Dekle said, “Debates help students to learn to do research, to manage and package information and to persuade people with that information.” While Aadvik Unni from Gems New Millennium School, Dubai, won the first prize in the competition, Shudiksha Basu from Shri Shikshavatan School, Kolkata, was also credited with a top prize by the judges. The rest of the participants were given certificates of appreciation for their participation. Students were judged on the basis of expression, articulation, delivery, diction and style, argument and ability to represent points of view. At the grand finale, K. V. Ramani, founder and chancellor of SaiU, congratulated the students for their enthusiastic participation. “This debate is a testament to the fact that youngsters of today are well endowed and well read about key subject matters. It is a delight to see youth so passionate about important issues,” he said. Dr. Jamshed Bharucha, founding vice chancellor of SaiU, extolled the students for their capabilities and interests in debating. “It is inspiring to see high school students debating about important and relevant topics of our time,” said Dr. Bharucha.

About Education Research Interests Major Works Dr. Maruthadu Sudhakar Visiting Professor Ph.D. in Applied Geology (Marine Geology and Seabed Resources) Dr. Maruthadu Sudhakar has 37 years of experience in Oceanography and the Law of the Sea, beginning in 1982 (Positions/Career shown in reverse order). He is representing India in various organs of the United Nations. Dr. Sudhakar has earned his Ph.D. in Applied Geology (Marine Geology and Seabed Resources), at the Indian Institute of Technology (ISM), Dhanbad.

About Education Research Interests Major Works Payal Bhattacharjee Lecturer, School of Law LL.M., CHRIST (Deemed to be University) Ms. Payal Bhattacharjee brings two years of experience in the legal field to the School of Law at Sai University, with expertise in legal research and academic instruction. She began her professional career as a Legal Faculty at Career Launcher, teaching a range of legal subjects through online learning platforms. Her academic contributions include curriculum development, academic planning, moot court training, legal aid initiatives, seminars, and workshops. At Sai University, she will contribute to teaching law courses, mentoring students, conducting research, and supporting the School of Law’s academic and institutional activities.

Kalimuthu has 10 Years of experience in therapeutic discovery and has worked across the domain including infections, inflammation and space medicine. Kalimuthu has done Ph.D from Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai. He has received laurels as First rank holder in both U.G, and P.G degree, Research excellence and drug discovery awards from University of California, USA and University of Oxford, UK. He has several publications in the field of healthcare, his notable contribution in reputed journals like JBC, IEEE, Medical Virology..etc. He began his career with University of California, Davis, USA followed by University of Oxford UK as postdoctoral researcher. Subsequently, he joined SRM Institute of Science Technology, Chennai as Assistant Professor (Research) before joining Sai University. In his career span he has been associated with NASA Space Technology Research Institute, USA and contributed lead role in space medicine discovery. Kalimuthu has made significant contributions in discovering several therapeutic drugs on addressing emerging infectious and metabolic diseases. He has approved US patent and played significant role in NASA space centre development programme as one of the investigator team.
