Prof. Seán McLoone is Director of the Centre for Intelligent Autonomous Manufacturing Systems at QUB. He has expertise spanning 30 years in AI and computational intelligence techniques, with a particular interest in Industry 4.0/5.0 applications, including AI enhanced collaborative robotics, condition monitoring, process optimisation, energy efficiency and sustainability. He has graduated over 30 PhD students, published more than 270 international peer reviewed journal and conference papers on his research, and secured funding in excess of £25M (£6M as PI). At QUB, he is a member of the AMIC Academic Board and Digital Factory Technology Strategy Group. Externally he serves on the Editorial Board of Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence, the IFAC Technical Committee on Computational Intelligence and Control (TC 3.2) and the AI and Data Grand Challenges Research Committee of the UK Advanced Control Engineering (ACE) network. Prof. Tom Gedeon received the B.Sc. (Hons.) and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Western Australia, Perth, WA, Australia.,He holds the Optus Chair in AI and the Director of the Optus Centre for AI, Curtin University, Perth. Before this, he was a Professor of computer science and the former Deputy Dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science, Australian National University, Canberra, ACT, Australia. He remains an Honorary Professor at ANU. He has over 400 publications. His main research interests include responsive and responsible AI and underpinned by edge computing efficient AI. His focus is on the development of automated systems for information extraction, from eye gaze and physiological data, as well as textual and other data, and for the synthesis of the extracted information into humanly useful information resources, primarily using neural/deep networks and fuzzy logic methods.,Prof. Gedeon has run a number of international conferences. He is the former President of the Asia Pacific Neural Network Assembly and the Computing Research and Education Association of Australasia. UNDERSTANDING INTERNATIONAL CONFLICTS WITH SHERMAN TEICHMAN Sai University recently organised a webinar on international relations and conflicts as part of its Synaptic Forum which explores ideas of visionary thought leaders around the world. Sai University aims to be the focal point for higher education in India with an active and inter-disciplinary model that will combine traditional education with dynamic methods. The webinar led by Founding Vice Chancellor Dr. Jamshed Bharucha hosted Sherman Teichman as the guest speaker who is a renowned educator with decades of experience in international conflict resolution around the world. At the forum, Mr. Teichman, also a Professor of Practice, International Relations, in the university, spoke about his role in bringing about peaceful resolutions in Iraq in the aftermath of Saddam Hussein’s dictatorship. He spoke in detail about the Helsinki principle in 2008 that brought together various sections of Iraqi society in an effort to create a non-sectarian basis for election in the aftermath of Saddam Hussein’s rule. He also explained about his interactions with Mac Maharaj, a retired South African politician with affiliations with the African National Congress. Mr. Teichman’s model of international education is one that puts students in the midst of international issues and conflicts to get them to learn first-hand the nuances of negotiations and peace talks. Mr. Teichman’s storied work in experiential education has changed the way students look at international conflict and resolution today. Sai University’s Dean, School of Law, Ananth Padmanabhan who was also present at the webinar spoke about the power of narrative in the context of international conflict resolution. He spoke about how the dispute resolution system in India is depersonalized and almost dispassionate in the way cases are judged. Mr. Teichman is the Founding Director of the Institute of Global Leadership at Tufts, a Senior Fellow at the Carr Center with the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard. He is also a part of various important boards – Wallenberg Center for Human Rights Foundation, RefugePoint, Combatants of Peace among others. Mr. Teichman has been instrumental in helping tackle international conflicts and its aftermath and how to reconcile in a manner that respects people’s dignity.

With the COVID-19 pandemic forcing schools all over the country to turn to online classes and blended examination methods, there have been criticism about the whole idea. “Critics point out that an online exam leaves students with patchy internet connections at a huge disadvantage — earlier this year, there were reports about a group of students from Mizoram trekking 10 kilometres through the forests to find an internet connection stable enough to write their exams online,” write Prof Mahesh Menon and Prof Abhishek Chakravarty from Sai University, for The Print. Zomaya is currently is Peter Nicol Russell Chair Professor of Computer Science and Director of the Centre for Distributed and High-Performance Computing in the School of Computer Science at the University of Sydney, Australia.Prior to that he was the Chair Professor of High Performance Computing & Networking (2008-2021). Professor Zomaya was an Australian Research Council Professorial Fellow during 2010-2014 and held the CISCO Systems Chair Professor of Internetworking during the period 2002–2007 and also served as the Head of School for 2006–2007. Prior to his current appointment he was a Full Professor in the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department at the University of Western Australia, where he also led the Parallel Computing Research Laboratory during the period 1990–2002. He served as Associate–, Deputy–, and Acting–Head in the same department, and held numerous visiting positions and has extensive industry involvement. To date, he has published more than 700 scientific papers and articles and is (co-)author/editor of 30 books. A sought-after speaker, he has delivered more than 250 keynote addresses, invited seminars, and media briefings. Prof. Bernard De Baets is a senior full professor in applied mathematics at the Faculty of Bioscience Engineering of Ghent University, a top-ranked Belgian university. He is leading the research unit KERMIT and acts as head of the Department of Data Analysis and Mathematical Modelling. He has been an affiliated professor at the Anton de Kom Universiteit (Suriname). Bernard is an Honorary Professor of Budapest Tech (Hungary), a Doctor Honoris Causa of the University of Turku (Finland), a Profesor Invitado of the Universidad Central “Marta Abreu” de las Villas (Cuba) and a Professor Extraordinarius of the University of South Africa. As a trained mathematician, computer scientist and knowledge engineer, Bernard has developed a passion for multi- and interdisciplinary research. Bernard is a prolific writer, with a bibliography comprising over 700 peer-reviewed journal papers, accumulating more than 36000 Google Scholar citations (h-index 91). Several of his works have been bestowed upon with a best paper award. Moreover, he is a much-invited speaker, having delivered over 250 lectures world-wide. He actively serves the research community, in particular as co-editor-in-chief of Fuzzy Sets and Systems and as a member of the editorial board of several other journals. In 2011, he was elected Fellow of IFSA (International Fuzzy Systems Association) and, in 2012, he was a nominee for the Ghent University Prometheus Award for Research.
