Ujjwal has done M.Tech in Computing and Mathematics from the Computer Science and Engineering Department, Indian Institute of Technology, Palakkad, and an M.Sc in Mathematics and Scientific Computing from the Department of Mathematics, Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology Allahabad, Prayagraj. HERE ARE THE RESULTS OF ‘THE WRITTEN WORD’ ESSAY CONTEST From lockdown chronicles to ways to handle the pandemic; from policy decisions on Indian infrastructure to dependency on technology, over 200 students had a lot to write about as part of Sai University’s (SaiU) online essay competition, . He began his professional career as an Assistant Professor at Dayananda Sagar University, Bengaluru, where he taught Object-Oriented Programming using Python, Design and Analysis of Algorithms, and Database Management Systems. About Education Research Interests Major Works Prof. (Dr.) Xiao-Zhi Gao University of Eastern Finland Finland Xiao-Zhi Gao received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees from the Harbin Institute of Technology, China in 1993 and 1996, respectively. He obtained his D.Sc. (Tech.) degree from the Helsinki University of Technology (now Aalto University), Finland in 1999. He is now working as a professor of data science at the University of Eastern Finland, Finland. Prof. Gao has published more than 500 technical papers on refereed journals and international conferences, and his current Google Scholar H-index is 50. His research interests are nature-inspired computing methods (e.g., neural networks, fuzzy logic, evolutionary computing, swarm intelligence, and artificial immune systems) with their applications in optimization, data mining, machine learning, networking, control, signal processing, and industrial electronics.

Dr Sindhuja Sankaran’s paper titled “When do they push the right buttons? Need for closure and the role of perceived control in situations of uncertainty” Dr Sindhuja Sankaran, Assistant Professor of Psychology, Sai University, has published a paper titled “When do they push the right buttons? Need for closure and the role of perceived control in situations of uncertainty” in the journal ‘Personality and Individual Differences’. The paper was co-authored with Małgorzata Kossowska from Jagiellonian University, Krakow, Poland and Ulrich von Hecker from Cardiff University, Cardiff, UK. You can read the paper at: t.ly/f42In The paper highlights the human tendency to seek closure when faced with uncertainty, a state that can be uncomfortable for many individuals. According to their research, they argue that some people are sensitive to uncertainty, i.e., they are not capable of handling uncertainty, leading to distress. While some other people are effective at handling uncertainty. This motivational personality difference is called need for Cognitive Closure (NFC). They were interested in understanding the strategies that people with high NFC would use to handle uncertainty. They found that when people experience uncertainty, they also experience a lack of control over their environment. So, by restoring control, people could restore uncertainty. They found evidence to support this assumption and found that people with high NFC were more effortful in trying to restore control. While this paper underscored the general processes involved in dealing with uncertainty, one take-home message would be that, when dealing with uncertainty, trying to focus on things that give you a sense of certainty would help restore control and thereby deal with uncertainty better.

About Education Research Interests Major Works Gautham Sekar Visiting Faculty Gautham’s interests are in information security, data science, financial technology, logic and philosophy. He is a co-founder of Madras Fintech Services Pvt. Ltd, a Chennai-based company incorporated in 2019. The company is a member of the Information Systems Security and Privacy Committee (LITD 17/Panel 6) of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), with an esteemed clientele that includes Infineon Technologies AG, InterviewBit Pvt. Ltd, NPTI Neyveli, etc. From 2022 to 2025, Dr Sekar was with the Madras School of Economics (MSE) as their PGDM Chairman. He did his B.E.(Hons.) in Electronics & Instrumentation and M.Sc.(Hons.) in Physics (dual degree) at BITS Pilani. In 2011, he obtained a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium), specialising in cryptology and information security. Subsequently, he has worked in various capacities at the National University of Singapore, Indian Statistical Institute, the Institute of Mathematical Sciences, BITS Pilani (Off Campus) and MSE. He serves as a Board Member of Shankar IAS Academy’s UPSC Interviews, alongside eminent bureaucrats.
