Sherman Teichman is Professor of the Practice of International Relations and Global Affairs at SaiU. A pioneer in education to promote global engagement, he is the founding director emeritus of the Institute for Global Leadership (IGL) at Tufts University in Massachusetts (1985-2016). Among the innovative IGL programs he created are the academic colloquium/symposium program, Education for Public Inquiry and International Citizenship (EPIIC) , the Alliance Linking Leaders in Education and the Services (ALLIES) , immersive education program with the U.S. Military Academies, the interdisciplinary Synaptic Scholars program, and the photojournalism Program for Narrative and Documentary Practice . He developed the academic exchange program, Tufts Initiative for Leadership and International Perspective, (TILIP) , into a world-wide program, initially with BEIDA University in Beijing and Hong Kong University). He also created the social and economic entrepreneurial initiatives, Building Understanding Through International Learning and Development (BUILD) and Empower , and a global immersive student research program. Several thousand students were engaged over the three decades, researching and interning in over 120 regions and countries, from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe. Dr. Saraswathi Krithivasan was the project manager of the prestigious e-Yantra project at IIT Bombay, one of the flagship projects of the National Mission on Education through ICT (NMEICT). As part of the project, she was responsible for various e-Yantra initiatives: creating a network of several hundred Robotics labs in colleges across India, bringing hands-on practical education to these colleges, and the much admired e-Yantra Robotics Competition (eYRC), through which thousands of student teams learn concepts and implement a solution to a gamified version of a real-world problem over a 4-5 month period. She has managed the SMARS project that recommended the smart card standards to Reserve Bank of India based on a trial implementation in IIT Bombay campus and the neighborhood. Professor Rajeeva L Karandikar is an expert on Statistics and Probability. After his Ph. D. at Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata in 1981, Dr Karandikar spent some years as visiting professor in USA and returned to Indian Statistical Institute, Delhi in 1984 as an Associate Professor. He became a full professor in 1989 and served as Head of department of Mathematics and statistics at the Institute and also as Head of Delhi Centre. He has been a visiting professor at several universities in USA and Europe. In 2006, he moved to Cranes Software International Limited as Executive Vice President – Analytics. He moved to Chennai Mathematical Institute (CMI), Chennai, India in 2010 and was its Director from Jan 2011 till April 2021. He is now Professor Emeritus at CMI. Dr Karandikar has made significant contributions to various areas including Stochastic Calculus, Filtering theory, Markov processes and martingale problems, limit theorems, Monte Carlo techniques, Queuing theory, Game theory, Theory of option pricing. He has authored two books with Professor G Kallianpur, one on filtering theory and one on option pricing and one with Prof B V Rao on Stochastic Calculus. He is a fellow of Indian National Science Academy and Indian Academy of sciences and has been awarded the young scientist medal by Indian National Science Academy (1985), S S Bhatnagar prize by Council of Industrial and scientific research (1999) and C R Rao National award in statistics by Government of India (2000). Dr Karandikar has been involved in numerous consultancy projects over the years. He has worked on development of proprietary Blockcipher algorithms for Indian defence services. He had developed a module on MCMC – Markov chain Monte Carlo – for SYSTAT – a general purpose statistical software. He has done statistical consultancy work for government agencies such as Election commission of India, Food Corporation of India, Gujarat State electricity board, Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI), Central Board for secondary education (CBSE), and several companies including ICICI Bank, Tata Consultancy Services, Tech Mahindra. He was a member of the technical committee setup by the Election Commission of India to advice it on sampling of the booths matching votes recorded in EVM and in paper ballot (VVPAT) in 2018-19. Dr Karandikar has been involved with opinion polls and exit polls in India for over 2 decades (1998-2019). Molly E. Smith was born in Chennai (formerly Madras) in India and received her BA (English, 1978) from Ethiraj College for Women and her MA (English, 1980) from Madras Christian College. She received her Ph.D. in Renaissance English drama from Auburn University in 1988. Dr. Smith has held tenure track and tenured faculty and leadership positions in universities in the USA and UK. She served as Director of University Honors at Saint Louis University, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Seton Hall University, Provost at Wheaton College (MA), and Saint Martin’s University. Dr. Smith also served as a permanent lecturer at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland for five years and as the eleventh President of Manhattanville College. She currently serves as Provost at Thomas More University. For over a decade, Dr. Smith was a member of the Board of Trustees of Fairleigh Dickinson University. She also served on the Educational Policy and Finance Committees of the Board of Fairleigh Dickinson University. Her other memberships include the board of the Keio Academy of Japan in New York; local business councils in Westchester(NY) and Lacey (WA); and the Foundation Board of W. V. S. Tubman University in Liberia (for a decade). Michael Gazzaniga widely regarded as having founded the interdisciplinary field of cognitive neuroscience. Early in his career he made a mark by being the first neuroscientist to comprehensively investigate differences between the left and right hemispheres of the human brain. Michael is the Director of the SAGE Center for the Study of Mind at the University of California, Santa Barbara. In 1964 he received a PhD from the California Institute of Technology, where he worked under the guidance of Roger Sperry, with primary responsibility for initiating human split-brain research. In his subsequent work he has made important advances in our understanding of functional lateralization in the brain and how the cerebral hemispheres communicate with one another. Michael’s teaching and mentoring career has included beginning and developing Centers for Cognitive Neuroscience at Cornell University Medical Center, University of California-Davis, and Dartmouth College. He founded the Cognitive Neuroscience Institute and the Journal of Cognitive Neuroscience, of which he is the Editor-in-Chief Emeritus. Michael is also prominent as an advisor to various institutes involved in brain research, and was a member of the President’s Council on Bioethics from 2001-2009. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Science, the Institute of Medicine and the National Academy of Sciences. He will also take over the position of assistant professor at the MIT Sloan School of Management and department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science starting Fall 2022. His research interests are the societal impacts of algorithmic decision-making, incorporating legal, economic, and normative considerations into the study of algorithms and machine learning. In the past, he has studied algorithms used in the criminal justice system, credit scoring, and employment. He has also spent time working at Google, Facebook, and Microsoft. He is supported by fellowships from Cornell University, the National Science Foundation, and Microsoft Research. He holds a BS in electrical engineering and computer science from UC Berkeley.
